Seriously!

So, I've been on the diet bandwagon for about a month now. I'm taking the slow and steady approach because unlike the other times in my life that I've lost weight, this time I would like to keep it off.

Once I get to my goal weight (which is eons away) I've decided that the best thing for me to do is to continue to weigh myself regularly. And by regularly I mean a couple of times a week if not every day.

I know people (yeah you, Mom) that won't go near a scale with a 10 foot pole but I really think that in my case it may help me keep things under control. Honestly now, we all now when we're gaining weight and when we're in a gain patter, who goes near a scale? Not me. I ignore the scale and the way it mocks me.

As if ignoring it will make me gain weight more slowly.

But if I pledge to weigh myself regularly than I can't plead ignorance. I'll see the results when I binge.

So that's my plan.

But in the meantime, I'm dealing with hunger. I'm eating well. 3 meals a day that are nutritious and filling. I drink gallons of water. But in the evenings the hunger gnaws at my belly and won't let me forget it. It's all I can do to not have a snack and one of my goals is to cut out night time snacking. I would have thought that after a month of behaving myself the evening hunger twangs would have dissipated. I mean, seriously!

Anyone got any tips for handling this hunger?

Good for you Shauna! This may sound counterintuitive but... a handful of nuts may be the best thing. Not the processed kind, however! But a 1/2 cup of dry, roasted almonds, or walnuts. They are loaded with fat, yes. But! It's heart-healthy fat, and it makes you feel 'full' not that horrible gnawing, empty feeling that I know exactly what you're talking about. Another decent snack would be carrots or some other fibre-rich food. Maybe peanut butter on apple slices? I don't know, however.
Good luck! Yeah, it sucks really, trying to lose weight :(

I am not the best person for giving advice on handling hunger...My solution is to eat! However that is counter productive. I suggest any whole grains, and cut out processed food. Usually full of empty calories that make you hungry faster.
